Today we will be introducing division for fractions, here are the key vocabulary for this section.
Dividend - The number being divided. Divisor - The number of parts the dividend is being divided into. Quotient - The result of dividing two numbers. Reciprocal - Two numbers whose product is one.
Football players will be dismissed at 2:30 today, so we will be going over the worksheets on division that were assigned last Thursday. We will also be working on IXL in class. Good luck Wildcats!
Today we will be continuing to hone our multiplying decimals skills.
I would like you to work on and finish the packet that you were given on Thursday of last week. Also I would like you to start working on the IXL objective O.1. Those of you attending the music festival, I hope you have a good time. I will see you at the concert tonight! Those of you not attending the concert I will see you at 2:00.
Assignment:
Finish the packet that was given to you on Thursday, October 10.
Today we will correct the following assignments:
P. 101 Problems 17 - 37
Pages 106 & 107 Problems 1 - 35 odd & 36 - 43 all
PROBLEM OF THE DAY -
Find a three-digit number that rounds to 440 and includes a digit that is the quotient of 24 and 3. Is there more than one possible answer? Be ready to explain your thinking.
Today we will be estimating decimal sums, differences, products and quotients using three new methods: Clustering, Compatible Numbers & Front-end estimation.
Clustering - means rounding the numbers to the same value.
Compatible Numbers - these are numbers that are close to the numbers that are in the problem and are helpful when you are solving the problem mentally.
Front-end estimation - used when searching for the range for the sum
When identifying patterns look for a relationship between the 1st term and the 2nd term. Check if this relationship works between the 2nd term and the 3rd term, and so on.
Historically, people who studied mathematics also studied astronomy. For example, Johannes Kepler and Sir Isaac Newton made contributions in both fields.
Problem of the Day
About 23% of 600 firefighters are not on duty on any particular day. Steven estimates that about 200 firefighters have the day off. Is his estimate too high or too low? Explain.
6 Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, surface area, and volume.
6.G.1 Find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes; apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
6.G.2 Find the volume of a right rectangular prism with fractional edge lengths by packing it with unit cubes of the appropriate unit fraction edge lengths, and show that the volume is the same as would be found by multiplying the edge lengths of the prism. Apply the formulas V = l w h and V = b h to find volumes of right rectangular prisms with fractional edge lengths in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
6.G.3 Draw polygons in the coordinate plane given coordinates for the vertices; use coordinates to find the length of a side joining points with the same first coordinate or the same second coordinate. Apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
6.G.4 Represent three-dimensional figures using nets made up of rectangles and triangles, and use the nets to find the surface area of these figures. Apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
With the Dakota Step Test coming up we will be working exclusively with our IXL program. The following standards are what we will be working on in the classroom and outside of the classroom.

Today we will be working on the following IXL's as we continue to get ready for the Dakota Step test in April.
Baltimore Ravens Win the Super Bowl 34-31! Sorry Zach! :-(
Joe Flacco threw 33 passes and completed 22 of those passes for 287 yards. What is the ratio of passes completed to passes attempted? What percentage of passes did Joe Flacco complete? How many yards per pass did Joe have on Sunday? Please email me your answers.

6.NS.5 Understand that positive and negative numbers are used together to describe quantities having opposite directions or values (e.g., temperature above/below zero, elevation above/below sea level, credits/debits, positive/negative electric charge); use positive and negative numbers to represent quantities in real-world contexts, explaining the meaning of 0 in each situation.
6.NS.6.a Recognize opposite signs of numbers as indicating locations on opposite sides of 0 on the number line; recognize that the opposite of the opposite of a number is the number itself, e.g., -(-3) = 3, and that 0 is its own opposite.
